I just posted this one in the off-road tech area. I forgot where I was browsing. Please ignore my lameness. Anyway, here's my question in the proper area...

Ok, I know how to do this one. My question is; Does anyone have trouble with them breaking over and over? I've replaced the driver's door window track 3 times, and both rear doors once each. Am I just buying old dried out plastic (still sealed), or cold something else be causing this? Do I need to lube the chanel that they run on also?

Yes you need to clean the track super good then lube the hell out of it. Are you using dealer tracks or the HELP stuff from the auto parts store? I have found the dealer parts to be of a better quality.

Yes, the poor quality HELP stuff. Not too cheap either. I'll try the dealer for the parts. I've tried the dealer for a replacement female end of the driver's seatbelt....they looked at me like I had two heads. Apparently, they don't stock stuff for anything sooooo old. 1988!

Yes, the poor quality HELP track. I will try the dealer. I tried them for a female seatbelt end and they looked at me like I had two heads. Apparently, they do not stock that much for such an old vehicle....1988! Anyway, thanks!

Had good luck with the dealer parts and the help section. the thing with the dealer is they most likely will have to order it and that takes a week.

Mine always broke on the down cycle - thats when the attachement is pulling down, vs. pushing when going up. I've lubed the heck out of the track with white lithium gease, but I suspect thats not it because because the friction is downstream from the attachement. I would like to know how the OEM compares - I've been told that HELP! gets their part from the same OEM source - don't know if this is true.

Maybe I could take the piece out that the track rides on, and sand it super smooth before greasing it. Does it come out? Anyone? Bueller? LOL
