column has shifter for auto tranny on it if it makes a difference.

Don't know if it helps, but I put a '87 Grand Wag leather-wrapped steering wheel on my '77 J-10. So, there's definately some interchangability between decades.
The shifter for the tranny shouldn't matter, it's mounted further back on the column.
