I am installing some new brakeline extensions for my BJ's 4" suspension lift. Is there a special tool that you use to disconnect the old rubber line from the pre-bent steel lines? I don't want to end up damaging these things.

They have special brake line wrenches that wrap 3/4 way around nut. I've used them with success, but on older FSJ's they will probably round off and you wind up using vice grips anyway.

I bought the wrenches from Sears - i forget what they're called. I managed not to round out mine using them. I would suggest you get those.

Bluduck. The best way to do this is to get the brakeline wrenches like mentioned and a hammer. Put the wrench on apply a little bit of pressure with your hand and tap it with the hammer. Trust me this works good. If you are doing the big lines on the master cylinder and rear spilter you will probably need to heat them with a torch first. I ended up cutting my large ones off and using a socket on them. Then just put new ends all around. But the little 7/16's are easy. Oh and maybe a little WD/40 or the likes a week in advance.

Personally I would rather Just replace the lines completely from the master cylinder back Its much easier than messing around with the old ones and hoping that you wont mess them up.
