well, the dilema of SBC/904 vs six/t18 has been decided.i have now found a model 18 transfer case to use with my t18,and that has indeed pushed it over the edge. in addition to not having to manufacture the twinstick shifter fot the d20,ill have most of the lost low range back(2.03 d20 vs 2.46 18 vs 2.61 d300).

the best news is that im picking up the 18 and pto for $150. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif i must have made the jeep gods very, very happy somehow.

any of yall know the wherebouts of a pto winch for sale?

im also wanting to run a matching offset rear end.anyone in the ohio/ky/indianna area got a QT offset rear end that needs a home? will be cool to have both diffs offset pass side-go thru deeper ruts, and just make sure i keep big ol' rocks under the driver seat.

i also picked up 4 more 38x15.5 ground hawgs with wheels for cheap. this has been a very good day, indeed http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

what do you want for it? no gears is prolly not a problem, since it prolly doesnt have a 3.31 that would match the front anyway.

I've seen a lot of references to the QT rear end being offset to the passenger side...mine isn't! Do I have an oddball or something? On my '78, the front diff is offset but the rear is centered. What's up with that?

Well just thought about this, its a WT axle you have a GW like mine that is narrow trac? How ya gonna make that work your rear will be wider than your fronts?
I really dont have a clue what stuff like this is worth used like that but it wouldnt be much since I only have the work of saving em from destruction into em. (which was only a few hits with a torch and they were free).
Seems like you would have to use both of em if you are running a NT front. Also I think they have 3.73 gears in there, thats why I thought I would use the gears in my d44's when I get some 33's under there. Let me know you could get both of em for all I care, I just couldnt see throwing them out if only to steal the gears. Im goin over there today, to pick up some parts from that chero and bring em home, Ill look at the numbers on the axles and see if I want those gears..

Scotty, here's something else to keep a lookout for, a double PTO unit. I don't know who use to make them but I do know where one is at and have drooled over it myself. It has 2 shifter handles and has a rear pto output and a front PTO output.

Scotty, I have a 79 narrow d44 pass offset rear 3.54 gears I might sell. 3.07 gears are the only other (optional) gears offered in 79 in a d44.

Michael are you saying that my WT d44's out of that 79 chero most likely have 3.54's in them ? That would be even better for me. I never got over there today to look at em closer so havent checked for ID yet. I hope they are. hehe Ill definatly be puttin em into mine.

clarkgriswald,
running a narrow trac front and widetrac rear wont hurt anything. my fenders/quarters are allready gone, the widetrac wont pose any problems. i would prefer widetracs, since my tires rub the leaf springs at full stuff with low pressure in the rear, and in the front the tires rub the leaf springs at full steering lock. using wide trac axles will solve some clearance problems for me. ill prolly use the narrow trac one for awhile since ive got extra steering for it.however,if you wanna get rid of both(less gears) i could prolly be talked into that.wait a minute. i have another widetrac front out of the j20,that wont be going into my friends xj,so i will have extra steering.the only thing that sucks is that i just swapped the front, had the rear out and replaced all seals, and spent alot of time painting them both purple.will kinda suck doing that all over again, but oh well.

what do you want for both axles, less ring, pinion and carriers? where are you located?

dean,
my PTO has front and rear outputs, but only one lever. both outputs spin when the unit is engaged.

michael f,
what do you want for your rear and where are you located?

bignblue,
you mean your rear driveshaft is running at an angle from the QT to a centered diff!? sounds like someone has switched rearends on you.the QT should have an offset diff so that the rear shaft runs straight back.this is the coolest thing about the QT and the 18.with an offset diff, you can slide thru deeper ruts than with a centered diff, and you just need to keep large trail obstacles under the driver side. my friend with an ofset 44 and 33s can go thru about the same ruts i can with a centered amc 20 and 38s!

The only thing I've seen pto winches on are military rigs and tow-trucks. My old M715 had a Ramsey pto winch on it. Check out the M715 boys and see what they have.
