So there's my dilema. Clearly I have to grind off the mount and fab up a new mount on the frame, but I'd also like to put some new poly in there as well. BJ's says they don't have a kit for the J trucks, has anybody tried using a Cherokee kit, or some other replacement?

Also, I'd prolly prefer not to take the cab off the frame. Think I'll have much more difficulty that way?

Thanks!

Maybe there's a GM frame that has a similar mount you could cut off, etc. I got a set of poly cab mounts from ESPO, for $65, and they look pretty good. They're going on next week.

You might want to just stuff some 2x4's between the body and frame on that rig at this point - hammer the sides of those existing mounts inward to hold the bushings, just so the cab can't go back and forth...

NASTY. Boat rollers work good for body mounts. You can get them in 12" lengths and cut them on a band saw to any size you like.

Yeah, I'm sure there's some better, cheaper alternative for the cab mounting at this point...

I just finished building my own for my 74 Wagopneer from boat rollers. If I knew how to get pictures into the message board I would post them. If you are interested in the mount pictures send me a private message and I will send them to you. I also added a 2" Performance Body Lift puck and sleeved them all together lick my original factory mounts. Cost was about $25 not including the 2" puck kit.

Where do you get the boat rollers?
Are you talking about boat trailer roller brackets?

Hockey pucks work great also. They are the same size as the rubber bushing that was in there. They also happen to be exactly 1" in height...hint hint body lift.

Ed, I'm thinking your gonna have to raise the cab somewhat. Not completely off mind you, but defineately up for some working room.
If not you'd have to stabilize/mount the new body mount bushing to your new fabbed frame mount...then weld it up to the frame. Doing this may be the ticket but you run the chance of burning up the mount doing it this way.
Bets of luck, that doesn't look to be very easy.

Ah, a body lift is so cheap anyway (115.00) I dont see the need to fab one up. I work to many hours a week to do that. Just my opinion though.

Big Blue - I've seen them used both ways. If the orig busing is in good condition just add the pucks on top or remove the bushing and replace it with a new puck. Plus at about a $1 each if they got bad they are cheap and easy to replace.

Do the hocky pucks affect the ride quality?

And do the pucks wear out really quick????

I would get new poly mounts before using hockey pucks. They're too short single, so they'd have to be stacked, and I'd want to avoid stacking. Again, the ESPO cab mount kit, which I just got, was $65. 6 top and bottom mounts, look good.

Actually the truck I was in that had the puck lift was actually a bit smoother on the ride.

Brian - pictures are on their way to you. My 74's original mounts were more than just a hockey puck. I liked the way everything locked together so i reproduced it using the boat trailer rollers with the nylon sleeve where the bolt slides through the roller. The rollers are cut to the desired thickness, the lift "pucks" are drilled to the same hole size as the nylon sleeve, a steel tube is cut to the mount + lift puck thickness + 75% of lower body mount thickness (the pictures will make all the pictures will make all of this make sense).

Thanks Brian for posting the pictures. Sorry for the size everyone! This 74 Wagoneer Custom was a real find! Alabama FSJ, no rust (you see the most there is anywhere), original paint, no body damage, almost perfect egg crate grill (I'm headed for a rhino), original slotted aluminum mags, and a running 78 360 4bl motor (alas, the 401 it came with was gone). PO evidently put a spring lift on it. Only thing really changed was the front bench seat was replaced. I have scrounged a complete caramel interior with headliner that will go in after it is repainted. I am also going for wT axles (although the 33's fit pretty well) with fender flares or WT fenders.

Guys, we sell the Wagoneer body mount kit, which will also fit the J-10's. The only difference for the J-10 is that you will have about half a dozen pucks left over. Cost is $130 retail ($110.50 with IFSJA discount).
