I used a Black & Decker heat gun and peeled the woodgrain off. Heat a small area at a time (about 6inch square) and peel. I used nail polish remover to take off any residue.
Patience is the key. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Good Luck

Matthew,

Another key element that wasn't mentioned.... a 30-pack of your favorite beer to ease your patience... http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

On a serious note...Be careful with the heat gun, you can bubble (burn) your paint very easily. If you are not worried about the paint... go for it. But ifyou want to maintain your paint, a HD hair dryer will also work... just not as quick and alot longer of a time....that's why I "needed" the beer http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

3M makes both Woodgrain Vinyl Remover and Woodgrain Vinyl Adhesive Remover. But they also make an electric drill attachment that is basically a stack of plastic discs which tear it off both the decal and adhesive at once, with little or no damage to the paint underneath. They're also the makers of the woodgrain vinyl decals.

This is a near-future project for me, so I've been doing my homework on it, as well. I'm buying these products through http://www.stripeman.com.

Here's an email response I got from Stripeman:

Ralph, you can remove the woodgrain either with Removal Disks or with chemicals. For the 3M disks you will need the following for your Jeep:

3M Roloc Holder (1-pc.) - P/N 07500

4" Stripe Removal Disk - P/N 07501 (4000rpm - need at least 5 for the whole job)

OR

6" Stripe Removal Disk P/N 07502 (2800rpm - need at least 3)

Pricing will vary from distributors so check around.

If you decide to take the chemical route:

3M Woodgrain & Stripe Remover, 24oz aerosol - P/N 08907

3M Woodgrain & Stripe Adhesive Remover, 24oz aerosol - P/N 08908
