i'm gonna be slapping an edelbrock performer intake and 600 cfm carb on my J10 soon... and i'm wondering about how to rig up the kickdown linkage. does the eddie carb come with one, or will i have to fab mine to the new carb? should i just go to a manual valve body/floor shifter? and is the edelbrock performer cam and valvetrain package worth the money?
thanks smile.gif
(can't wait to get some extra horsies and torque, woohoo!! :D )

didn't have to worry about a kickdown on mine (standard), and can't answer the question about the camshaft, but the manifold/carb made a 100% improvement for me.
I think Edelbrock has an adapter for a kickdown. Look at Edelbrock's Web Site (http://www.edelbrock.com), you might find one there.

i have the same edelbrock package. after i got the carb on the intake, i started looking through the left over parts for the right stud for the kickdown lever. couldn't find it. i got a little disgruntled that i was going to have to fab something to work. with that in mind, i started clearing things off the counter, and lo and behold i came across the rest of the parts that came with the intake and there was my kickdown stud. Now that just makes no sense, what if i had bought the carb and not the intake? anyways, it was there, and no adapter was needed. you might need to buy a throttle cable bracket though. although i didn't buy the cam too, i've been very happy with the intake and carb.
Good luck,
Keith

I have run the performer grind cam in my wag and was not rel impressed with it. It is not a bad cam for a stock rig but it is not a whole lot better than stock. When I put the new motor in it will have more cam in it. I do have the edelbrock in my 304 CJ5 and love it there but the bigger motor, IMHO needs just a little more. My wag is not a daily driver and has a lot of gear in it so my findings may not be right for you.

Not real known, but in the business a long time is

They have AMC specific cams, not just warmed over Chevy grinds. Takes full advantage of the AMC lifter size.
Stick with the stock cam for more low-end, better idle, vacuum and mileage. Edelbrock makes good intakes and timing chains. I prefer their #1904 Q-jet carb over their Carter AFB clones, (Performer), for serious off-roading. But it is about twice the price. Their cam might improve performance above 3500 rpm, but at the sacrifice of performance below 3500. How often do you spend above 3500?

i would second the motion on a Q-Jet style carb, small primary bores = excellent throttle response and good gas mileage and large secondary bores with air metering doors providing variable venturi design continuing the strong steady throttle response that screams "look out mudhole here i come" - in short its a **** good design and with a good tuning manual they're pretty easy to set up

If you are sure that you want to change the cam Sgt.Dave is right, give Engle a hard look they have been around since the 50's. They also know how to bring the older Olds engines to life. Haven't heard the name for a long time. They are in Santa Monica, Ca. M.G.
