what is a good set of lights for under $100 to replave the driving lights? also what wattage are the stock lights, and can i wire in 55w lights without rewiring the harness with relays and such?

I replaced mine with the 55w Blazer driving lights from the local parts store or Walmart. Cost about $30 and yes you can use the factory wiring and 30 amp relay.

For around $70 a kit you can get Hella 55o rectangular or 500 round lights. Good black plastic housings, glass lenses, metal reflectors, 55W bulbs, good wiring and instructions. I have some of each on front of my Wrangler!

I used a set of blazer lights on my 87. had to modify the stock connectors, but it was easy. no mods to the wiring other than that.

found a set of kc daylighter slimlites thati ordered last night. they are 130w lights, but i may replace the 130 bulbs with 55w. the only thing i'm worried about is whether i have to wire in a relay to manage the higher wattage on the bulbs, or if i can just put weather pack connectors on and plug in to the original system. i really would like to use the stock switch and wiring if i can, just for ease of installation. Anyone know? Is there already a relay in the circuit, or will I have to put one in?

All the switch does is activate the relay. Most lighting, fuel pump, fan relays are 30 amp. So unless the KC's use two relays(one for each light) you can just change the connectors and plug them in.

That Wal-Mart set that was mentioned for $30, they are the oval shaped ones w/the protectors on them right? & how well do they work?

No, they are the rectangle ones, look like the OEM. The last time I looked (two months ago) I couldn't find them at Walmart. But O'Reilly auto parts had them. I'm sure anyone who carries the Blazer line can order them.
