I was wondering if having a limited-slip front on a rig that is doesn't have selectable hubs would wear out fast? What would be the best thing to do, I don't want to have to get out to lock the hubs. I'm thinking a Detroit in the rear and of course if I could afford it a OX or ARB but are there any other options? Let me know what you think.

Yes, there would be more wear on the front end and your steering might be harder. Depends on the type of limited slip you are talking about. A trac lok would probably cause you no problems but they do not lock up tight like a powerlock or auburn.
If you can't live with lockout hubs, then your only options would be the arb, ox, or the new eaton electric locker. I think the Eaton will proove to be the best of the bunch but I do not know how much they are going to cost.
Have you thought about using auto hubs? You do not have to get out to lock them in. That would put you pack with a detroit.

the prollem lies therein the 229s great likelihood to be detroyed if you engage in 4x without making sure the hubs are locked. power could spin thru the 229s viscuous coupling center diff, very effectively destroying the viscouos coupling.
if you are 100% sure youd never acidentally put in 4x without locking the hubs, you could run whatever locker you want in the front without worrying about it.
you may want to cosider the true trac(also made by the detroit people smile.gif ) i dont think it would give you any steering trouble with a full time front end,as log as the xfer is in 2wd. it will tighten up in 4wd,but 2wd id think it to be fine. it is a gear driven limited slip,so it wont wear out the clutches, and you need no special oil.
i have a true trac for the front of my rig that i will put in if/when i get tired of the welded front. lots of people tell me that they work extremely well and with some brake modulation will even still pull with a wheel off the ground.
smoe more to consider,ayway smile.gif

Scotty-
I am going to upgrade to the NP208. I was wanting to leave the constantly locked front end fronm when I had the NP229 so I will not have to get out and lock the hubs. The truetrac sounds pretty good, I will research a little more.Thanks.

I would NOT use auot hubs with a Detriot. Good way to blow the hubs up, stick to a good manual hub.
