OK so I figured I would just pass on my most recently aquired findings for everyones benefit.

Firstly just to clarify the Haynes Manual with its somewhat confusing information. In it it states that the 360 EGR is non- back pressure sensing. Which may lead you to try and test diaphragm integrity with a vacuum pump. Well it is back pressure sensing so this will not work without backpressure on the pintle, it will leak air.
Other than pushing on the underneath of the diaphragm which will only serve to let you know if it's frozen or not. Here are two methods to check the diaphragm.
1. Rev engine to create exhuast backpressure and then try and lift using a vacuum pump. I haven't actually tried this but see no reason why it should'nt work.
2. Remove EGR valve clean up unit, with vacuum pump attatched place mouth around pintle making sure that part of your face is also covering and blocking the square port next to the pintle and then blow. You should be able to hear the back pressure diaphragm close, then start pumping on the vacuum pump and the pintle will lift. If you blow hard enough whilst making a good seal and the unit is good it should remain raised and hold vacuum. I have tried and tested this method.

Next part Ping and Anti Knock kits. My recent archive forays found that the anti-knock kit was in theory finally all sold out. Well the good news is there are some still out there. I had my local dealer run the number and he pulled up more than one dealer out there who has them sat on the shelf still. He then gave me the phone number's of the closest whom I contacted and recieved a unit.

The part number is 83100071

Frystock Jeep, New Jersey has apparantly 3 more on the shelf
call 732-388-1203 cost $65.OO
Now my Jeep Dealer pulled up more than one dealer so if you wish I can go back and get some more dealer numbers if your local dealer is'nt that helpfull. Just PM me

Now in addition to this I cross referenced the unit for aftermarket numbers. The actual OEM EGR number is 17075570. This comes out to be a

Borg Warner EGR 1179
Guaranteed 779-2590

All the anti-knock kit is, is the EGR valve and a splice so that the forward delay valve can be removed. Should be a cinch to copy. Now the only thing to note is that my aftermarket supplier said that the above numbers are grade 5 on availability this translates to mean very hard to get. I.e his system starts of A,B,C,D and then goes 1,2,3,4,5!!! However at least you have some part #'s to run.
Bear in mind there are still some kits out there
I hope this is of some use. smile.gif
