Help! My '88 Wag's TC blew apart this morning while pulling into the parking lot at work! SPlit the case about 8 inches on the outbound side and spilled the fluid out.
Does anyone know if I can drive it about 20 miles home without the fluid and not burn the thing (or anything else) up? Do I risk blowing the tranny? SHould I take out the front driveshaft if it is possible to do?

I think you might get it home.. but I don't think it will be okay once you get there.. You might want to just have it towed if at all possible
I've got a 229 boxed and ready to go. I'd made a deal to sell it for $100 plus shipping but the guy never sent me money or got back to me. Let me know if you're interested.

Well, you're not going to hurt that transfer-case worse than it is; sounds like it's a complete "remove-and-discard" unit at this point. The needle-bearings may start to weld themselves to the shaft as you drive, so don't go too fast, and post pics of the carnage! :D

May I also ask what kind of Dukes of Hazzard style jump did you try to perform on the way to work?
