Hi, I have a J-10 ( 1985) with the Chrysler 727 trans. I'm about to get and install a filter and refresh the fluid. Anyone out there have any experience with installing an aluminum pan with a larger reservior for fluid and improved cooling. Pretty expensive, but are they worth the effort and cost ????? Price I got was $190 +/-. I do have the factory cooler.
Thanks for any trans. suggestions.

I'm no AT guy so take this for what's worth(free) but your tranny/converter already holds over 8 qts of juice. I don't see where adding a bigger pan for a couple pints of additional juice is going to make much of a difference. Well not $195 worth of difference. If cooling is a concern I'd either upgrade the existing trans cooler or add an aux cooler. Both options will give you more cooling surface plus also a bit more capacity. Just my thoughts... smile.gif

Another thing Kriz from what Iv'e read on here you'll run into clearance problems with a deep pan and the crossmember.Like joe said you could go to a larger trans cooler.

Yep the bigger cooler is the way to go, granted an auto tranny is a hydraulic system and the fluid is how the energy is absorbed and turned into heat, therefore more fluid=more ability to get rid of heat. BUT for about $50-60 you can get a modern B&M cross flow cooler.

Thanks all for the suggestions. After carefull consideration I fully agree with you all. A bit of extra fluid is a benefit, but not a critical need. And if so, the added cooler would be the best way to go and the least costly and require no modifications.

Thanks again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
to All.
