Greetings all. My first post as an FSJer. I have a 73 CJ5 w/360, Dana20, 35 x 12.5s, and I have just entered FSJdom after purchasing a 79 Wagoneer. My question involves a T-Case swap. I have a Dana300 sitting in my basement. Eventually I'd like it to find it's way into the Wagoneer. Can anyone clue me in as to how I can make this swap work? Has anyone here done it? I like he low range of the 300 and having more control over what the front axle is doing(via manual shifting of the T-Case). Any help would be great.

Welcome to the best place for your FSJ. You will be real happy with your purchase, trust me.

On to your question, you can not put the D300 onto a TH400 with out an adapter kit. Novak has them, here is the link. http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_134.htm I think that the D18 is a better swap. This is just my opinion. The reason is because of the offset rear end that is on your 79. The D18 will give you a right/right drop to match that of the QT. If you take all the guts of a D18 and put them into a D20 case you will have a T-case as strong as the D300. The low gear will be 2.46 vs the 2.62 of the D300. This is what I did, and so did a couple of others. Remember this is only my opinion. Once again welcome!

Sounds good to me. How about the front hubs? Is that just a matter of putting on a set of manual units?

Yes. Any manual hubs for a D44 will do.

Welcome AL! I miss my little 69 CJ5 - lots fun! Real happy with it's larger cousin though...

you could also swap in a 727 instead of buying an adapter. the 23 spline/circle pattern d300 will bolt right on.

to use the d300,tho,you will need prolly 3-4" or so of suspension lift and limit uptravle on pas side to give the front driveshaft enuff room to not hit the big bulge in the 727s tranny pan.

or you could prolly reclock the d300 for more clearnace.

or,you could use a 904.its skinnier,d300 will bolt on and youll have room for a 2" shaft, even at stock ride height. i ran a 904/d300 for a long time in my GW,and you could beef one up to hande a moderate amt of 360 power.
