Before I beg for help I just wanted to say hello and I'm one of the new guys. The posts of information are amazing and educational.

On to the problem, With my '91 Gr Wag, when accelerating from a full stop I hit a dead spot from the start and then picks up after a few seconds. I've replaced fuel and air filters, plugs, wires, rebuilt the carb. The guys at the garage are stumped. With the carb rebuild it runs stronger if only to keep it from stalling when stopped. Unfortunatly I can't do the work(yet). My bills are going up and no one can seem to find the problem. A minor education would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from a newbie!

Was a new power valve put in the carb? Some of the el cheapo kits don't include one. Either that or a vacuum leak?

Sounds like the accelerator pump is not providing the extra gas your engine needs for accelerating.

The accelerator pump operates off an arm that mounts to a sleeve which rides on a shoulder around the throttle-shaft. Sometimes corrosion, dirt and grime get under this sleeve, causing accelerator-pump operation to be balky. Even a good long soak in carb-cleaner isn't enough to clean this out, so it might very well affect a freshly-rebuilt carb.

The solution is to clean it out and lube it. When the 2150 on my '88 gave me this problem, I first soaked inside there with rust penetrant, then brake-cleaner, then a lithium spray lube. That solved everything.
