On my 86 GW,the left front window quit working. Pulled panel and tried the old trick of tapping the motor...window came 2/3 down and never moved again. Bought a used up motor from a board member.....hooked it up and all it will do is run in the down position. Cleaned switch and reinstalled.....no difference. Test light shows fire when holding switch in down position. Same wire also shows hot when switch is in up position. Other wire shows hot when switch is in up position only, but motor doesn't run. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I don't have power windows, but what comes to mind when something like what you described happen could be :
* Bad switch? (kinda far fetched)
* Bad relay somewhere in the circuit.
That's all I can think of. Best of luck to ya.

TRY TO HOT WIRE THAT THING,IF REMEMBER RIGHT, IF YOU REVERSE THE WIRES IT WILL GO THE OTHER WAY,TO SEE IF IT GOES UP AND DOWN!! IT,S POSSIBLE THAT IT WILL WORK ONLY,UP OR DOWN,IF IT,S F UP.. DON'T WORK TO HARD..***WE MAKE THEM LOOK GOOD,THEY JUST FIX THEM*** GEMOBX/77/401

GEMOBX is right on this one, get two wires and run them from the battery if you have to. Hook them one way and then the other the motor should run both directions just by swaping back and forth. That is what the switch arrangement does on the door panel. From what you are describing the switch appears to be bad. I have not been able to track down a cheap solution. You can clean the switches I have done this several times myself. With the door panel off remove the screws that hold the switch. Pry the keepers from the connector back and remove the switch from the door so you can work on just the switch. There are some small metal clips the hold the switch in the bracket that mounts the switch, remove these and you should be able to remove the switch from the bracket. With the switch removed from the bracket, use a small knife along the seam of the switch to pry it open. Once it is open you will probably be able to see why it is not working correctly. Mine were corroded badly and needed to be cleaned. Use a small stainless steel wire brush and some contact cleaner from Radio Shack the clean the contacts and reassemble. Hopefully that will solve your problem. Good Luck! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gifWhile you are in there lube the solenoid linkage to the door locks and save your self a trip. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
