Anybody ever tried dying door panels? I have a set of dark blue I would like to dye black. Any product reccomendations?
I once dyed the pannels of a 78 trans am, went to Arnolds paint shop bought the expensive dye with special sponge applicator and it looked like crud and scratched easily.. If i were to do it over again I would spray paint it with cheap ole rattle can paint

I bought some replacement armrest for my camel tan interior. Only problem was armrest were beige. I used the spray-on vinyl dye. When I did it years ago, I could only find the dye at upholstery shops but now retailers carry it. It works and holds up well on vinyl but it will chip off on hard plastic.

I've used fabric paint with really good success. Even if you want to revive the original color. Brings it back to a like new look.

I must have used the wrong products, but I've never had good success with dying vinyl. I've used the vinyl paint. Years ago I shot some hard plastic trim in a mustang, it scratched off. More recently I did some door panels in a dodge, that peeled off.
I'd love to get the name of a product that works well.

SB, You can do this no problem, but like painting, prep is the key. SEM is the product I use But you have to get it at the auto body supply. They have a vinyl/plastic prep that really works well. Marc

Brad, the autobody supply store I mentioned off Glover (fairground st.) carries top of the line vinyl dyes that they sell to custom upholstery shops....not too expensive, and easy to use. Best option, imho.

Use the SEM stuff and prep properly.
I did some door panels with it and they look great.

Thanks y'all. Looks like I'll be going with the SEM stuff, hopefully I can pick some of it up at that place off of Glover. I have a complete set of blue panels that are in perfect shape. I'm just worried that dark blue panels on a brilliant blue Jeep may look a little funky, so I've gotta make'm black!
