Recently, since it has warmed up a bit here in SC, my wagoneer has as well. And really, it just wasn't running that good either and suffering from heat soak pretty bad (gets VERY hot after I cut it off and doesn't run well when I crnank it back up). I flushed the radiator recently thinging that may help (not) and put on a new rad cap. Nope to that too. Incidently, it has a new carb and I did the TFI thing a year or so ago as well.

Anyway, just for fun last night, I checked the igniton timing. It was dead on 10 deg BTDC, which is in the specs. Beacuse it has been pinging when it gets hot, I decided to drop it back 2 degrees or so. All I can say is WOW! It runs MUCH better, NO heat soak (it doesn't get hot now!) and it even idles better. Cranks up faster--everything is improved. I wish I would have thought to do this a year ago after I did the TFI changeover. I'm not sure if this simple little thing can help anyone elses drivability issues, but it seems to have almost cured mine that I know of, and it is cheap, and easy to try.

It sure makes a difference Joe.When I did the TFI upgrade I was also going thru the spark knock issue so I did part of the anti-knock tsb(I removed the vac delay valves and reset the timing to 8 BTDC and it cured the spark knock).Sure did make a difference. Also have you chenged your thermostat?I did mine and went with a 180 degree instead of the 195.made a difference last summer and wasn't a noticeable difference last winter, but I wouldn't go below a 180 degree thermo.
