Can you swap the wiper motor and controls that are on the fire wall from a 79 to a 74 wagoneer?

BTT=back to the top, a way to keep your post up front for folks to see. Are both controls on the dash? I think the motors are the same in my 86 and 79, but the 86 controls are on a stalk and the 79 controls are on the dash. If the controls are the same wouldn't think it'd be too big a deal switching out the motors. Is Fireman a nickname or are you on the job? I run in South Jersey, just came home from visit with my bro in law, an Lt in NYC. Be safe.

Ok the 74 has a GM motor and uses a mounting plate that is spot welded to the firewall. The 79 has a Motorcraft motor and does not use the spotwelded mount. I havent tried it yet but you should be able to grind the mount off and mount the motorcraft motor there. I dont know if the bushing is the same or not if anything it will have to be drilled bigger. The switch might not go in the 74 location but will fit where it was farther up the dash on the 79. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm planning on doing this when my old GM motor burns up.

Thanks Arter and Greg. Yes, Arter I am a firefighter in Texas. Hope your bro in law and his family are o.k. Our prayers go out to all our brothers in NYFD and their families.

Greg my dash in the 74 and 79 are identical. Does that mean the switches are in the same place? The buttons are in the same place on the dash but I wasn't sure if you mean't another part of the switch that is under the dash somewhere. smile.gif

If the 74 has a GM motor are there any GM cars or trucks that use the exact same set-up(electrical connections, motor, dust covers, ect.)?

Then the switch should go in the same location. I think pre 72 chevy trucks use this motor.
