Last year while troubleshooting my poorly-running 258, I tested the EGR and discovered that the diaphragm was broke, so I thew the thing away and replaced it with a block-off plate. I figured when it was time to get it back thru inspection I could just buy a new one, which I needed to do anyway. So today I looked on the PartsAmerica site where I look up most parts, and they have 7 listed, all with the note to take the number off the old unit and match it. Arrgghh, now what! Don't tell me AMC used 7 different EGR valves in one year (1978)!
Does anyone know what the right part number is, or have one that's slightly used for sale? Or, I have a new DuraGuard Gold oil filter - PF25 - for a CJ 258 to trade - won't fit my Jtruck 258 (PF24).

Don't feel bad, I'm in the same boat. The PO replaced the orginal with a wrong one. For my year 360, there are approx 12 variations. Which one?

Have you tried a Dealer ? Particulalry one that was a Jeep dealer before Chrysler.
Even if they don't stock it any more, I would guess that their parts "book" would be the most helpful in tracking that type of thing down. They can often give numbers of "superceded" parts that are interchangable.
Just an idea.

are you concerned about a visual inspection? if not,it should pass just fine without it. if it runs good, take it in for the test and just leave on your block off plate. if you do have visual inspections, just go to the bone yard and grab any one that will bolt on,put your plate back on after.
did i ever mention how much i HATE e check?
