I'm replacing the ones on the rear driveshaft. Haynes manual says I can press them out with a press or big vise. I think my vise will be just a tad to small. Can I use the sockets like the manual suggests, but tap on them with a hammer to push it out? I guess I can find a shop with a press open tomorrow that could do it for me, but I'd like to do it myself, but don't won't to screw anything up.

I've used the sockets to replace my u-joints. Just make sure you use the correct size sockets and if it dont get going in right away then its not lined up right. Do it again and get the alignment right. When you get one end done, use electric or duct tape to tape the caps on while you work on the other end. Good luck. Any problems call at 414-841-5188....Alan

If your vise is to small, stop at home depot and get a bigger one !
I have used the vise method and have had no problems, have also
seen the hammer method and besides messing up a good socket
was not real impressed. As a final note: after I get the new joints
pressed in I use the vise to squeeze the yoke(s) together slightly
this pushes the u-joint caps back so they don't wear on the ends
of the u-joint, you can really feel the differance in how freely they
move after doing this, but be sure not to mess up the yoke by pessing
on a delicate area.
