Greetings All,
I am pulling the bed off of my '81 J-10 to clean up all the nasty rust on the bed and frame. Used to be a plow truck here in the northeast, so it has plenty of cancer.
Also looking for recommendations regarding paint / coating for frame and underside of bed.
I am planning on doing inside of bed with Durabak.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Crazy et al,
First message was a screw-up, please ignore. ;)
Second message is legit!
Cheers, Tom
For the frame I'd use POR-15.

I'd second the POR-15. Sandblast the frame first, and either spray or paint it on. I would over coat it with regular black spray paint since it reacts and turns chalky when exposed to sun light. I would sand blast the bottom and under side of the bed and spray POR-15 over the whole bottom and insides as well. You will have to cut the real rusted areas out and replace with new metal. POR-15 is tough stuff and you need to be careful where you apply it because it does not come off easy. IT is also expensive, but seems to be worth it.

I'm a big fan of POR15.
Couple things to keep in mind..
1- it is thin and lasts forever!
I bought a gallon and have barely made a dent in it when using it on my scrambler. I would try and gets pints and get more if necessary.
2- it likes being applied to rough surfaces over smooth. You only really need the metal-ready prep stuff for smooth surfaces.
I think it's a very good product and worth the $. I plan to use some on my cherokee frame and also the rusty spots in the interior that I will coat before doing the herculiner.

side note:
I have used POR on my restore. I have one good idea for those who use it. I bought a gallon. When you get it pour it into a gallon jug like an antifreeze jug. It makes it easier to handle. You can then just pour what you need and the top is easy to get off and on. It is also recommeded to store it in the fridge, it will last much longer and not thicken on you.
This wknd, I tried removing the bed mounts in my 73 J4000 and ended up breaking 3 bolts in half and unscrewing one. 3 out of 4 frozen up so tight they broke rather than turn  ...and that's after 3 days of soaking in WD-40...I guess I should try a different penetrating lube huh? ANyway, I thought you might want to know...fun stuff huh?
I'll get those new body mounts in there soon
