I have the alloy wheels (look like a turbine) on my Wag. What can I do to make them shine again? They look like hell.

I'm in HVAC so it is easy for me, you would make them sparkle if you used coil cleaner on them. I use the acid not the base. Make sure to spray it on the metal of the rim. Watch yourself, this strong stuff will eat your face off!!! I used to get a red alloy acid cleaner a Auto Zone but they stopped handling it, then I started using my coil cleaner which does a better job and for less money. Max time is 15 minutes use a kitchen plate brush with a long handle and gloves.

Stand back when you rinse, then after that use soap which will neutralize the acid.

if they dont have a clear coat on them use an SOS pad or brillo pads. they will work wonders for aluminum wheels. i shined up a new set of slots only to find out all but one was warped, doh, man was i pissed. but they look great in the parts pile http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Use "Never Dull". Its what we use in the marines to chine everything. Takes everything from rust to tarnish off. Works great.

I found my "Never Dull" at True Value Hardware. On my 91 GW rim, clear coats are still on them. Unfortunately some clear coat has scretch marks and aluminum was attacked by road salt. Very ugly indeed.

Never Dull is a good start... but if you want a REALLY good shine... chrome-like... I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish. It's a paste polish that you rub on until it oxidizes and truns black, then polish it off... depending how bad they are, you may want to use Mother's for the finishing toiuch. I polish my rims once a month... religiously...Mother's is great for all metals... you would be surprised what shines with Mother's

I still can't figure why anyone with such a ugly JEEP to start with would want to attempt to make it look pretty. Sounds kinda like puttin' lipstick on a pig. :0

Man if my rig is clean enough to polish the wheels than I'm not having enough fun. Oh well I think the last time mine had a bath was when it rained or does that count?

Not at all!!! If you keep 'em clean and polish regularly... takes nothing.... about 15-10 per wheel.... that's if you keep them up... I thoroughly clean my FSJ undercarriage after every trip.... that way inspection goes quick with nothing falling on me... http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif Polishing is easy....

Depends on how you look at them... I for one see potential in EVERY FSJ.... reguardless of current condition...I remember when people used to laugh at me in mine when I first got it.... it's WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY NOW!!!!

There must be a start somewhere... you just have to find your personal starting point...some it's the rims... others it's the drivetrain... others is paint and body...to each his/her own...

So what about the clear coat? Mine is chipped and scratched in some places. Do I take it all off, if so with what? Do I then apply something like it or go with out?
