timeing question

what is a 360 on a 78 cherokee timeing suppose to be set at i have it set at 8 dregrees btdc and the engine backfires threw the exaust pipes and shakes like crazy when idle when i step on the gas the backfire starts up and the shakin quits whats wrong

8 degrees sounds right per the sticker on my 77
Do you maybe have plug wires crossed?

all it was i had the negitive ground wire attached to the frame instead of engine switch it around runs like a top
