Well, budget restrictions are going to kill my desire for a diesel. So I will be settling for a 454 BBC. I have the motor it just needs to be assembled and some minor parts bought.

I saw the pic from the readers rigs on one swap. Has anyone else done one that knows what exhaust manifolds will fit ? Or if I will need another leaf in the front pack ? Any tips, suggestions or ideas ?

Hold out for the diesel!

6.2 and 6.5 GM diesels are plentiful and cheap. While the Cummins 4bt is OK, these are just as good unless you are comparing them to the 6BT.

That was a big help Mark ! Thanks ! I like the twin stick cable shifters, I grabbed a set of controls off a junk boat, going to try the same thing with my Qtrac

The best person that I know of to talk to, is George Andrews, on the FSJ-List.

I don't have his email handy, but if you sign up for the list, you can start a thread on FSJ/454, and he should respond.

I'd like to wait for the diesel, but I'm looking at $2k for GM, and $3k for Cummins swaps. I have a 454 and a vortec 350 that I have no money in and either one just needs a few parts. But why go SBC when you have a BBC...

I have a never used '00 454 Vortec injection set-up I'd sell to you for $400. you'd still need a crank trigger, computer and a harness to make it work.
you know you want it :D

Mark, how the HELL do you get away with driving that THING around in NJ. I'd get my arse pulled over in a second.

You still have to take that through special inspection? You even have the old blue plates.

it means he passed inspection before the jackarses in power set the new max height/tire size regulations. your lift can be grandfathered, but your tire size may not. they reduced it 2 years or so ago to a max size of 38". and if you do anything whacky with your susp. you need to go through an engineering inspection. And good luck with that.

the fenders and quarters were on it when i bought it.the po said he bought them from a place that made fg body replacement parts in fla years ago.they are no longer in business.the flairs are molded right into the quarters and fenders as one pc.they are actually the only reason i bought this rig.this was originally a nt untill he put the quarters and fenders on as you can see from this pic.

Rats!!!! I wanted some fiberglass fenders, would've decreased my work on the rig by quite a bit!
