I'm looking to put a Chev. big block in a J20 with a T18/20TC. Am seeking advice on Heavy Duty axles, transmission, transfer case, etc. Don't want to rip everything apart, but don't want to spend $1,500 per axle either. Thanks in advance for your replys.

What do you use the truck for? I think that a D70 rear and D60 front is a good choice. If I could afford it I would go with these. But for the kinda wheeling I do, the D44's are just right, for now http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Do you already have the adapter for the engine to tranny?

Good choice Porkchop... must agree... now. behind that BB Chevy....hmmm... well... if it were mine http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif... I would go with a TH400/NP205....

Inside joke on this one. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif.... I'm lookin' for the same tranny/T-case combo to withstand my abuse of my 39's...

Very wise choice to get this combo... can be found in 71-84 3/4 ton model GM's.

sorry, but i just dont see any logical reason to adapt a BBC toa t18/d20.

i would use an sm420,or an sm465 with a 205 xfer. either are prolly alittle stronger than the t18,the 205 is defiantely stronger than a 20,and no wierd adapters. just make mounts and figure out the linkages, which shouldnt be too hard, just put the engine in about the same spot, both trannies use a mechanical linkage.

what gears do you need? PC is right-for that kind of torque, youll need a dana 70 or corporate 14 bolt, unless you need in excess of 5.13 gears. in that case you need a custom 60 wit upgraded shafts, and then you can get down to 7.17.

a 60 in the front is also mandatory, again with upgraded shafts, and you might consider then new warn "fusible" hubs.

i think youll break stock 60s unless you baby it,in which case you prolly wouldnt be bthering to put a big block in ther n the first place-so well assume youre gonna give it some heck.youll definately break 44s like nothing.

good luck with your project...
