Ok, I know we all have 401s, 360s or 258s in our wounderful toys, anyone out there put in a 350? I have a 258 that might need rebuilding and I was woundering since I am at this junction, could I fit a 350 with something from Advanced Adapters between the engine and tranny, (4 speed)to keep the rest of the drive line FSJ.
Or if anyone has suggestions on what I can do with my 258, like the milage it gets but could use a little more power.
thanks

i would stick with the 258, but im not into accelleration or speed. if you arent towing a heavy trailer, whats the need? the 258 gets better mpg,and that will be a factor. i wouldnt be surprised if gas climbs to 2$ a gallon this summer. the 258 is a tough motor and a lot easier to work on

For a little more juice out of the 258, get yourself a Clifford manifold and a small 4 barrel carb. You can also swap on a 4.0L head which breathes a whole bunch better. My 2 pennies.

I recently replaced the 4.0 in my Comanche with a newer engine. I plan on rebuilding, overboring, and stroking the old engine and transplanting it into Timex. I kept the '97 intake manifold and EFI harness that came with the new engine, so I get the 2nd generation MPI system for it, too.

I believe the 4.5-4.7 engine I'll have will make about the same power as a mildly-built 360, but the fuel-injection and fewer cylinders will get me better mileage. I'm swapping to a V-8 core support and will run the larger radiator to keep it cool.

This just makes sense to me as I already have the 4.0 and 4.2 lying around that I need for the swap.

My YJ will be getting an AMC 360-401 and will eventually be converted to propane...
