I just got my new DUI distributor and you are supposed to be able to run up to .50 gap with the plugs. For you all that are running this type of dizzy, what brand and type of plugs and how big a gap?I dont know what my stock alternator puts out but the instructions say I need 14.6 volts. This is for an AMC 360 w/4bbl and used for daily driving.

The dist will operate on the 12 to 13.6vdc that the system puts out.14.6 would burn up the battery in short time.0.045 gap seems to be ideal for AMC motors.I run Autolite platinums in any vehicle, which i've had very good service from

The Davis H.E.I. is made to run off FULL alternator voltage, thats 14.5 + -. I've been running one for 3 years now. I run plain Autolites at .050.........................phil

Aren't you asking for more problems by gapping plugs so high? I thought that was traditionally for long distance driving at best.
I have a Delco alt/stock dist and haven't strayed from the .035 Haynes recommendation with my Bosch platinums.
Pros and cons as it relates to performance?

H.E.I. is a different ignition animal than the stock set-up. Much stronger ignition voltage, hence the larger gap. Larger gap, larger flame kernal, better mixture burn, more power. No problems encountered...............phil
