Help! Got a waggin' Chief!

My '78 Chief has a bad case of the shimmies... At low speed the front end wanders a bit - enough that it doesn't feel normal. At speed, however (55+) if I move the steering wheel at all the thing gets really squirrely... feels like when you are towing a trailer and the trailer gets weird and starts moving the back end of the tow car back and forth. Shop said all the front end components are ok... I think I replaced the steering box a while ago (looking for receipt).
Any other suggestions? Thanks... Dan T

When was The last time you replcaed the steering stabilizer? Is there any kind of lift on it? I would look at the stabilzer first. Since it is quick to check. If you can push it in and out with your hands with little effort then I would say it is time to change it out.

get the tires balanced

Replaced steering stabilizer about 12 months ago...
Doesn't feel like tire/wheel balance issue...
It is lifted about 3 inches...
