I'm going to look at an 8' LWB truck bed tomorrow to see if it's worth what the guy is asking. Says it's from about a 74-75 truck. Is this the same bed as came on an '83? Is the tailgate attachment the same or does it use the chains instead of the elbow-type retainer on the tailgate like mine has? Are the fender flares the same? Mounting to the frame the same? Does the gas tank attach to the bed like mine or does it mount to the frame? He says it uses the oblong tailites like mine. Just thought I'd ask some questions before I go to see if it's even something I'm even interested in since it does involve about a 100 mile trip. From the way he talks it is very solid so I thought I'd give it a shot.

from my understanding nothing except interior, grills and a few minor things changed on the fsj series trucks,if its the same length and is solid and a good price dont hesitate, get it,it may be the last one you ever find,as you know they have the cancer problem and they are the hardest part to find out of any fsj body parts, even if for some stange reason somthing doesn't line up it would be no big deal to staiten out.jump on it...

The bed did change in '74. The early beds are very hard to come by and did use the chains. I don't know if the mounting points change for '74 or not? but doesn't sound like it will matter for you. From what I understand a bed from a '74-'75 should bolt right up.
