Okay, This is not the complete story at all, I will post that tonight in the general forum, but this is the problem Im having at the current moment. At around 60MPH my jeep jas lots and lots of vibrations...Now, this weekend, I snapped the front DANA44 if half at the housing, and borrowed a new axle from tysons jeep. I also got a big dent in the rear driveshaft, and borrowed tysons aswell, and the vibrations are still there...any ideas oh jeep guru's? So far the things I will be having checked because the jeep is 3 hours away from me is the motor mounts...but I have no idea where else to look other than trying a new rear end. Any imput you can give will be awesome. Thank you much.

When you swap driveshafts, you may not have them lined up properly. I don't know the exact problem, but this was discussed previously and the problem was the driveshaft being 180 degrees out. Someone out there might be able to shed more light on this.

I'd be worried about the front driveshaft as well. Maybe bent steering/suspension parts too. I had the centering bearing go bad but not fail in my front shaft, it didn't cause a major vibration, but some. I'd expect a lot of steering/suspension damage front the destruction of the d44. Good luck.

we took the steering from tysons jeep, so thats all good, and we will swap the front driveshaft and take a good close look at it as well.

You guys are awesome...any other ideas?

I had the rear diff lock up in my 1 ton crewcab dually che*y and when I installed the new rearend I ended up with driveline vibrations. I check a lot of things and finally started calling driveline shops to inquire about balancing my shafts (no jokes now), I figured I might have damaged the shaft when the rearend locked up. They said to double check the seating of the u-joints (I had replaced the rear while the end of the shaft was on the ground) and make sure they were seated properly in the yokes. The shop said it doesn't take much to cause a vibration (like only a small dent on the shaft).

I dropped the rear of the shaft again and got out the carb cleaner and a brush and cleaned all the crud until I could eat off of it and then reinstalled it. And you know what, the vibration was gone, needless to say I appreciated the suggestion from the shop.

This may not be your problem but it could help someone some day. Maybe make sure the caps are seated perfectly in the yokes.

Good Luck,

P.J.

Couldn't hurt to check your wheel weights. And make sure the tires are on the same sides are earlier. On my toy truck, I rotated around the truck when the manual says only swap tires from front to back. Well apparently my radials had become worn directionally. Vibrated like crazy. Swapped the lugs directions, and it's smooth. Tires are often a big source of vibration. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Big y j-10 gotta good point,if one of the tires is starting to separate belts that can raise a heck of a vibration

Have you been out playing in the mud lately? You might want to check to see if there is mud in the wheel wells. This is along with all the other suggestions.

well, No mud...but the tires bit raises a decent question...when we put on tysons axle, we also used tysons tires, same size, different breand...didnt think that would make any difference...if it does..I know i damaged one of my rims on the landing and had to pound it back into place but i have the rim off of the bald spare i can use if needed...but its definately worth looking into

I'de get them re-balanced first, quite possibly the problem and not expensive to do. If you jumped it, a weight may have fallen off or something, I loose weights all the time 4wheeling and I'll get a vibration right around 55-60, then it goes away if I go faster (65-70).

wow....this brings back memories...not good ones either....have not fear we shall seek and illiminate the vibes, one way or the other.

All possibilities I can render (some have been mentioned):

shafts out of phase ( -] or [] )
bent shaft
bad/loose u-joints (you swapped out.... are they the right size?)
mud cakes in rim/lost weights
Pinion Nut loose on yokes

*** these may take time and $$$:

angles wrong on driveline
worn yoke output bearing at QT
worn carrier bearings
chipped teeth on R&P

I notice you have a 3" lift....did you break this on the flying stunt? Remember.... normal operating angles for the OEM CV front shaft is 16 degrees and max angle for droop is 22 degrees..this is NOT alot of angle you can clearly see. Any drooping with ANY amount of RPM's that comes close to or tries to exceed that 22 degrees with destroy the front shaft.... I know.....did it with only 4" of lift. You may want to check your angle on your front shaft.... 2-4 degree shims might help you out some with angle relief...unless you don't
plan on jumping anymore.....hehehe. If you light-wheel and don't spin wheels when you hit the ground, your shafts whould be ok.

Sorry.... got of track.... :D

My gremlin was carrier bearings.... since you swapped axles.... I doubt that this is the culprit.

When you swapped in Tyson's axle and shaft..... did you have both shafts on? or just one rear witht eh E-Drive locked? You can isolate front and rear by removing a shaft and locking in E-drive. I did this to find my front carrier bearings were destroyed. Just time consumingthat's all.

Having a small variance in tire size/ pressure will definitely affect drivability of the QT. If tires are mixmatched, you must adjust ride height with pressure.

vibes are hard to chase and need patience sometimes... don't get frustrated... take a break and start fresh when you need to....IT can be time consuming....good luck....
