Is there a trick to getting the heater core box out of a J -10? I removed the 2 bolts holding it to the firewall, and it's still attached. I don't want to go doing anything stupid, so I'm going to have lunch, and get away from it for a while. As always....Thanx, Jim

This pissed me off when I did it, too. There are two bolts on the inside, also. If those are the bolts you said you already got, there are also bolts on the outside. If you have got all those, it should theoretically just pull off. The bolts on the inside may be behind a cover of some sort, but they're there. Just feel around in the general vicinity of the heater core (under the passenger side dash).
Hope this helps, and good luck

Yup, two on the inside too. Pretty easy to get to unless you have an AC unit, you'll have to drop that out of the way if you do... you should be looking for two long studs sticking thru the fire wall, take the nuts off and you should be all set smile.gif

Replacing the heater core on a FSJ is easier than any other car I have done before! While you have the box off its a good time to do a compression check because nothing is in the way.
Every time I buy another FSJ it seems like the first thing I need to do is replace the heater core, usually leaking or plugged and I like a nice warm truck in the winter. You can clean all the crap that has collected in the box over the years also. I don't need A/C here so I get rid of it, makes the job much easier. :D :D smile.gif

After a lunch break, I saw where the manual said thier were 2 bolts on the inside  I got it off, cleaned out the crud, ran water thru it, and added some weatherstrip stuff so maybe the heat won't be so good in the summer! Now, the heater motor won't turn on  I love these animals... you fix one thing only to break 2 more! Any suggestions on the motor??? Thanx for the input so far. ;) Jim

plug it in, turn it to high check the motor. if it hums, pull the lead quick. then loosen the 5 screws that hold it in. chances are the fan is jamming some where. if it doesnt hum, whack it with a screwdriver handle. then read my post to Clark ja regarding his heater under turn signal trouble
