View Full Version : Here's why I sold the Dinosaur last night

I *am* fumed for the price I sold my truck for last night. But I was so ticked off that I didn't care anymore. BTW, for those of you that know what she's worth... she went for only $1,500. I can't believe I let her go that cheap. I'm through with it.

Anyhow, this is what happened that led me to this decision...

I blew my 4th U-joint at the rear yoke in 4 months last night picking up my other half to a Tx4x4 meeting. 10 minutes and the driveshaft in the bed, and everything's okay. 208'ing and front wheel driving.

My front driveshaft is doing okay but it has a funny vibration to it. I'm a little worried.

I'm halfway to the meet, and I'm doing about 45 and out of nowhere the transmission slips out of 3rd. Well, where my foot is on the gas, the motor winds up to 5 gran FAST and the spedometer needle spins up to 100mph! Almost like I broke something in the transmission to stop moving, but still spin the speedo gear.

Anyway.. so i've got the hottest thing since Lava sitting next to me, and I'm slowing to a crawl... with **** construction rails blocking the shoulders. Well, I start downshifting to 2nd, nothing.. then L .. BAM. Gear. Cool. I shift it back to 2nd, BAM second. Great! 3rd... BAM! Good. I'm moving again. I mumble about how my truck is pissing me off and the other half just smiles and says "Maybe she's just jealous of me." http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Oh yeah! http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, I'm moving again, and I get up to about 45 again and it slips again! Now I've determined that I can't go over 45. Same thing, drop it in 2nd only this time, tap the gas a few times, gear catches. I'm thinking I'm low on fluid. I pull over and check. Its hot, its a little high, but there's no smell. So I say screw it and keep driving. I make it to the meet... people go wheeling. I go. Front wheel drive. Slipping.

I lose my cool. Girl understands. She's great. I roll down the window and say "You know what... $#@^ it! Who wants to take it off my hands.. make me an offer." 3 people jump on it.

What the heck made my transmission flip out all of a sudden???

Geeze Snakey,
How ya' gonnna' fill the FSJ void now?

Oh, nevermind, I see you have another one.

I can just imagine how pissed off you musta' been, but that's just the way it is with these things; a real love - hate deal.

You DO have another FSJ, don't you?

Slick

Snake, I feel your pain and can understand the frustration, I just hope for your sake that you didn't make a decision to sell pre-maturely. I sold my 79 and have regretted it ever since. But the silver lining here is I hope it helps you out financially and at least you know the person you sold it to so you can always go visit...the guy I sold mine to resold it within a week and I haven't seen it since. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/frown.gif

That's the sad part... the guy I sold it to.. might tear it apart http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/mad.gif

He's got another J-20.. which is in horrible condition... but he kept sounding like he was going to rebuild THAT one. What a punk!

Oh Yeah. That's a beee-Ute. I've always wanted to name something "Elsie" but for a guy nicknamed "Snakeyes_Tx" I can see ya' goin' for somethin' a'little more, shall we say masculine. Still, I think "Elsie" could be a name that conveys power and grace. Either way, ya'gotta' remember you got NO MORE FSJ's in the corral man!

Also lookin' forward to seeing what y'do w/it,

Slick

HAHA I named mine Eleanor because she acts just like the Mustang from the movie "Gone In Sixty Seconds". Man I loved that movie! Snake, sorry to hear you sold your truck man. What a bummer. I'm only selling mine because I got another one and also got a LT1 engine to go in her! Details on that will be coming real soon. It will be a wild one I promise!

vehicles, ships, planes, and rifles should always be feminine, IMO.

i'm sure you'll find the name for your waggy. names always come to me at random moments, but they fit, so i keep 'em.
