i removed the bad fuel pump from my 87 wag and the new one wont line up so i can bolt it in. could the place on the cam be a problem area? this is realy weird, i've never had this problem on any vehical. i have to get this jeep runing and cleaned up so i can sell it.

The lobe on the cam that drives the pump is probably in the down position. Try rotating the engine a little by the crank to move the lobe a bit, this will allow the pump arm to fit in better. Make sure that the pump goes in even and lines up properly or it will fail very quickly and could cause some major problems, also make sure to pack the pump with some wheel bearing grease or the like before installation. Good luck.

Also, mounting that arm is just a pain in the butt. It helps if you loosen the power steering pump (if you haven't already done so) and kinda aim the fuel pump 'up' from the bottom of the motor....am I making sense? I had some frustrating times putting mine in.

DO NOT use wheel bearing grease on the arm !!!
little bit of white lube, engine oil, or better yet assembly lube but not wheel grease.
With the power steering out of the way (PITB due to the waterpump stud.)
the pump should slid in and if the cam is in the down possition, bump the engine,
or just use hand presure to line it up, don't use the bolts to just crank it down
hold it in place with one hand while getting the bolts in snug with the other.

Yep, I'd say your cam lobe is at it high position...even when it's at it's low position you'll still have to put some force on the fuel pump arm to get the bolts to line up. This is especially fun to do when it's raining and 39 degrees....and your 360 is nasty a fairground portajohn. LOL.
