All the books I have basically say run 10w-30 or 10w-40, its time for an oil change and i saw this stuff. Castrol truck blend its 15w-40, would that be better for the motor, or would it hurt it, or not even make any difference? Thanks in advance.

you could burn the 15w-40 in the summertime. I would think that oil this thick is marketed toward diesel engines.
it is probably a better oil than conventional 10w-40 type oils.

From what I understand, the lower the # the "thinner" the oil. I had a worn out GM396 tat rattled on anything lighter than 20-50 ;) But I think u'd be fine 15/40, especially a slipperier" synthetic.

I would not waste my money on a blend. If you want a synthetic use a true synthetic like Amsoil, or Mobil 1. With the blends, you just get the high price.
As far as the 15w-40, it would be fine to run in your engine, it will not hurt it, but will be thicker at the lower temps. At operating temperature, it would be the same as the 10w-40.

i like the blend..... burnt less, than the dino...... on short driving distance...... of course the blend is prolly 20% synth.... i tried to mix a 50/50 and it was like the 100% synth.... burning too much..... not leaking..... but on long drive.... it is perfect
20W50 would work year around as long as temperature do not dip 5 degree below freezing

Woody, I was just looking into this because I wanted a blend in a different weight. You shouold check into valvoline if you haven't already. The valvoline durablend comes in other weights, the part number is 291 for 5W30, 296 for 10W30, and 301 for 10W40. Carquest sells valvoline as it's carquest oil plus other valvoline products, if they don't have it on the shelf I know they can get it same day or next. 15W40 should be fine for your rig unless the temperature is consistanly below 20 or 30 degrees.

Don't know if it helped or not. It didn't seem to hurt anything. smile.gif
