I am going to be swapping out my engine mounts this weekend. Is there anything I should look out for, other not letting the engine fall on me :D ? Thanks for any info you may provide.

I just replaced mine on a J10. I only used 1 4 ton canister jack, I put it under the oil pan with a metal plate and 1x4 board scrap in between to keep from damaging it. not much trouble, some of the spaced are a bit tight but it's managable. Good luck.

Got a fan shroud on there?
Take it or the fan off, save yourself the heartache of either bending the fan or more probably breaking the shroud.
Don't ask how I figured this out ;)

I've got a few tips on my webpage (aka homepage) which may apply. I'm not aware of any differences in that respect between your 78 and my 85

I am also in the process of replacing the engine and transmission mounts. Do I not need to be worried about supporting the engine weight on the oil pan?

Also, does the Jeep need to be sitting on the ground. I put the front on jackstands to change out the transmission mount, and since the oil pan is now at an angle, I cannot use a jack with out it wanting to slip out from under the extension piece I am using (2x4).

Will work for Wag

Thanks Jason. Yes. On the top line of every post there should be a row of icons. The first one is profile, the second one is homepage, further on is a way to e-mail the person. Thats why I took that stuff out of my sig.

As far as picture of my wag goes. I just haven't got around to making one fit the new format, but its nothing special, just a beat up '85 wag.

don't forget to disconnect the tranny linkage before jacking the motor up. You might bend it and have to straighten it out afterwards if you don't. If you bend it, your tranny will most likely not shift afterwards ;)
