You can do the TFI upgrade, which is what most people do. Costs around $100 for parts, and about an hour or so of your time. Roughly doubles the output of the ignition (from approx. 10k volts to around 20k volts).
Or, if you want to blow around $450, you can buy a Davis Unified Ignition (aka, DUI). It is an HEI distributor & ignition system that replaces all your stock parts. It runs around 45k volts.
After analyzing both, I chose to do the DUI, but can't yet report on the performance (hasn't been completely installed, and I am still in the restoration process).

If you're thrifty, like me,you can get all the parts you need for the TFI from a mid 80s Ford in a junkyard. My TFI upgrade cost about $20,And you already have the module.

Be aware that some 80's Ferds still used the can-type coil, which won't give you any benifit. After lots of trying & head-scratching over the proper part #s I just gave up & bought a TFI kit from Juice Box or something like that. Cost a lot more for just a neat coil bracket, and the supplied plug wires ain't all that great, but at least it worked right out of the box. Got quicker starts, better idling (able to turn it down & remain smooth), and a solid 1-1.5 MPG increase. Could'a done it cheaper with enough research, but I consider it filthy lucre well-spent.
