I found a guy who is parting out his rusted out 72' wag. 360, t400.
It was his father's vehicle and he says it was factory ordered with a posi. Is this a dana44? And would the posi bolt right in on my 78' wide track axle?
What would it be worth, and is it pretty strong?
I was also wondering what transfer case it would be. It is a turbo 400, but I guess it has the adapter style trans. Thanks...Ty

Yes, it's a Dana 44. Factory limited slip for that year was the Dana Spicer Trac-Lok (TL). TLs of this vintage are not strong, not durable, and not very effective. The positive-traction of the TL is not agressive to begin with, and the clutches wear out quickly. TLs do not have good inpact resistance - only two spider gears and they break.

The transfer case is a Dana 20 part-time, same as in CJs and manual transmission SJs of that era.

As tgreese said it's a trac-loc and not worth bothering with. It prolly hasn't worked in 20+ years. It's rebuildable but they still don't last very longer and under hard use not long at all. If you could get it for free it might be worth rebulding depending on your intended use but I certainly wouldn't pay for a used one that's 32 years old.

Another reason not to use the axle is that the 72 Wag has a NT axle and your 78 is a WT.
