Oil Pump Gears have Alignment Marks?

I have a 401 and while rebuilding oil pump I noticed a punch mark on both the drive and the driven gear. How do I align marks when I reinstall? Do all AMC oil pumps have marks like this.

No alignment is needed. I keep the driven gear mark facing down, same as the drive gear. Nothing is mentioned in the service manual, and I have never had any problems.

Yes, these are alignment marks!!!

If you remove a used pump, and reinstall it, the marks are for alignment. 2 gears turning on each other wear a certain pattern. May not cause any problems, but I always put them back the same way they came out.
