OK I have 2 questions actually. I just bought a 88 Grand Wagoneer with a 360, and I need some info. First off does anyone know what kind of Tranny these things came with?? Everyone around here has a different opinion. Second, It doesn't shift into 3rd very well. It shifts fine in every other gear but takes a long time to shift into 3rd and when it finally does it slams into gear. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

First off, it uses a Chrysler Torqueflite 727 transmission, the very same one mated to Hemi's and other big-block applications, but with an AMC bellhousing pattern. Very good transmission.

Second, I'd first make sure the kickdown linkage at the carburetor is properly adjusted. If it is out of adjustment, shifting can be out-of-synch as you describe. I believe the adjustment procedure is on the web-page.

Good luck, and welcome to the club!

Welcome to the board!!!

I second what Dr. Bob Barry sez and I'd also like to say - check your fluid level (and color). Make sure you check it with the engine idleing at normal temp and tranny in Neutral. Color should be cherry-juice red, not too dark or like a strawberry milkshake...

Good luck!
