here's my question: Will a v8 from the zj body style(grand cherokee) bolt in to a late year grand wagoneer? I know that the 4.0L from the xj body style will mate rather easily, but will the v8's used by chrysler also fit? Would make an interesting engine swap, and I would think that if you could get all the sensors installed for the fuel injection, you could get quite good gas mileage also. Anyone know if this has been done?

Won't bolt in. Chrysler vs. AMC
Has been done by others.
I think you need to swap in the whole drivetrain rather than mate the engine to the current tranny etc.

I guess i thought that perhaps the bolt patterns would be the same considering that the 4.0 used for 15 years after chrysler took over bolts up to the 727 tranny. just a thought. anyone else want to chime in on this?

Chrysler didn't redesign the AMC 4.0L block when they used it, but they obviously left the Chrysler V8 block the same and didn't change it to an AMC pattern. So the tranny would be different in a 4.0L ZJ than a 5.2 ZJ.

You would have all the problems any other swap
would have, even if the bolt pattern were the
same (They are not), all the rest of the engine
is different, and share no real similarity other
than they are both V8's and have the same lifter
diameter. So if you are really set on this, plan
on taking atleast the engine and tranny from the
ZJ.
