Hey all! I've asked this before but I've been searching for 20 minutes for the thread it was in and no luck, plus I'm running out of light QUICK.
Anybody know which vac hose (of the 3) goes where at the instrument cluster. I'm speaking of the three that regulate defrost, heat, etc.
I know that one goes to the vac source, one and the other two go to the flapper for the heat and defrst - but WHICH spicket-nosel-thingymabobdodad do they each attach to at the cluster?? There are three (obviously) at the left side of the cluster:
1 toward the engine, 1 toward the cab, and one between.
Off the tops o' your heads while I can still see without breaking out my lamps?? :D
Cheers!

smile.gif No worries. Thanks anyhow. AC is separate from all of this hoo-haw. I just started trying random combos after I figured out which vac line CAME from which vent flap (and the source line) and after messing with it I THINK I've got them hooked up right. It's hard to tell by looking at the switch on the inst cluster.
Ah well, I figure it out. And if anyone DOES know, I'd appreciate it. Right now I've got them as such.
source goes to cab side on the cluster
defrst goes to eng side..
and heat goes to the middle one

Engine Vacuum is furthest forward
Heater is middle
Defrost is rear most.
All is relative to the vehicle front.
There was a thread about this about a month ago but in the updates to the web site it must have been deleted or something.
I was one of the ones replying in that thread so I know it was there at one time. It was one of those things where I had just got done figuring out the heater vacuum controls for myself and somebody needed to know what went where.
I hope the control wasn't changed between 77 and 80.
After I put the hoses on and all I marked the switch with a "E" for engine an "H" for heater, and a "D" for defrost in case I forgot. I also marked all 3 hoses with the appropriate labels.

Thanks Phil.
Yeah, I remember the thread, cuz it was me asking. But then I wound up with more mission critical stuff to do for a few weekend, as usually goes! smile.gif Finally got around to pulling the cluster again yester day (needed to replace the headlight switch anyway) and went looking for that thread.
I figured it was the updates too. Aw well, thanks for replying again.
I've got them backwards right now acording to your hook up, which makes sense because I was hearing a weird sucking noise when I had it "OFF" , and which went away when turned to "DFRST". Time to switcheroony.
Good call on the labeling - I was going to do the same after I'd made sure they were correct!.. ya'd think AMC might've taken a sec to do that as well. ;)

on both my '83 & '84
the center hose is theone with a red stripe.
the forward hose(twards the motor) is the yellow one.
the rear hose is the green one.
If you start the motor, the red hose should pull in air, if not, its disconected somewhere else.
hope that helps.
