View Full Version : Body Lifts...75-83, Why?!

I've been searching for body lifts and I've found the Performance Accessories and the Trailmaster. PA says it fits 75-82, Trailmaster says 75-83. Now why do none of these fit the 74 and lower? I think I've read that it's something about the number of body mounts, but I'm not quite clear on it. How can I get a body lift that fits my 74 Wag? Thanks. -Zach

My 67 has 14 body mounting points. All of them have bolts in them, unlike the newer models with 12 but only 10 are bolted on. If you get a kit for a Jtruck it comes with the 14 blocks I believe (could be wrong) was a long time ago that I talked to the guy about it. Also you can order the one with 12 and then buy two more blocks from PA or TM. Which ever why you go you will have to buy new bolts anyway since none of the ones in the kit fit.

What are the differences in the bolts? What size new bolts will I need? Thanks PC. -Zach

Zach,

Check out the thread from when I did mine. I would suggest just buying the pucks and then getting the bolts/nuts/etc. from a local hardware store. Keep in mind that you'll have to extend the tranny linkage. I had to extend the linkage on my TC (D20) shifter. I think you'll be okay on the QT, but somebody more knowledgeable will chime in, I'm sure.

Should you use grade 5 or 8 bolts/nuts? I was thinking about a 2 inch body lift for tire clearance. Anybody got any guesses on the cost/puck? Thanks people.

I used grade 8. YMMV

1) My 73 J4000 does have 14 body mounts

2) When I 2" BL-ed the wag, I had to extend the QT linkage (with the little bar provided by PA and a welder) but the tranny linkage still worked (it's adjustable) I lowered the rad using some holes that were already drilled and I replaced my bumpers beacuse the stock ones dont fit (without mods) after the lift.

3) All my bolts fit perfectly straight from the kit.

4) A word of advice...start hitting them bolts with the penetrating lube NOW and do it every day till the time of the install...even then be prepared for a genuine PITA and some serious cursing at frozen/stripped/etc. bolts.

In retrospect...why did I do that BL anyway? I shoulda just cut the fenders

Oh well 6" lift sounds cool :D ...until you start talking to RiverBeast or something :(
