Does any one have any experience, good or bad with the napa delco remy rebuilt long blocks?
my 360 is dying and i'm thinking that $1600 and a 3 year warranty don't sound to bad to make my 83 a daily driver again.
Let me know what you guys think.
Napa doesn't actually do the rebuilds. They farm the contract out to a local shop. The Napa rebuilds in my area are done by a shop in Tacoma so the Napa in Fargo will have a different builder. Ask the Napa people who does there rebuilds and then do some homework on the shops reputation, history. Call the Better Business Bureau and see if they've had any complaints filed against the shop. The one in my area has a good rep but that may not hold true all over the US.

I'd consider ATK, which is a national company, and appears to have very good products. They have free shipping to and from your location. Also consider doing rear main oiling mods, and head oil draining mods. Good luck - Chris S.

Just curious, but is Delco Remy a division of General Motors? If so, maybe the regional rebuilders are held to certain minium quality standards.
I'm sure Napa/Delco has a nationwide set of standard of what parts/quality to be used but it still comes down to the care and paying attention to detail of the assembler doing the work. I would think if Napa got too many complaints about one of their build shops they'd pull the contract "eventually" so it doesn't hurt to do your homework.

just an FYI on the Napa repair shop deal. you have to use 80% Napa parts, shop has to be ASE certified, and has to have been in business for a certain number of years. Tolerances are spec'd out for the engines and trannies they farm out.
It's somewhere along those lines anyway, I've been looking into it for Napa Big Truck program.

Check these guys out, I bought one (ford) and have been very impressed. I also know three local mechanics that use them and they have a good waranty and low failure rate. Locally a carquest store sells them. I got my ford 302 for $1100 and a quote for a 360 WAS $1600.

How would you go about doing these oiling mods?
I might try S&S Machine in Washington State. $1600 shipped and you keep the old one. 7year 70,000 mile warranty. You also have some minor options like cams rings balancing etc for a reasonable upgrade. I may go with them but have not yet. Khurst bought a 401 from them and apparently the work they did was good.

Just looked at your post. I looked around for about a month for my new 360. I found that S&S engines out of Spokane WA. had by for the best deal. I payed 1,5063.00 this included shipping to TX. for a complet premium long block. That's everything already installed exept for intake and timming chain cover. They have a 1.6% engine failure rate nation wide. Now here is the part I counld not belive. A 7 year 70 thousand mile warranty. You can contact them at (509)-325-4558. I have mine in now and it run's smooth as silk.

Installed a NAPA AMC 304 in a buddy's CJ5. It ran good for a week then hung a valve. He pulled the head and took it back to the NAPA that he got the motor from. They wouldn't honor the warranty cause the engine was not installed by an ASE mechanic! We went in later with my FAA airframe & powerplant certs and that wasn't good enough either. Licensed to work on multi-million dollar aircraft, but not good enough to work on on old '74 Jeep I guess! Make sure you know how the warranty works no matter who you get the engine from.
I second the Gopher engines..Rita's got one..pulls hard..got 5k now and smoooooth!!!!

I checked and the NAPA engines here in ND are Gopher Engines out of the Twin Cities. The warranty is directly from Gopher, 3 year 36000 mile, and they pay either myself (at a reduced rate) or a mechanic to do any warranty work after the original install.
I will however check out S & S in Spokane just to be thorough.
Thanks

Yeah those Jaspers are good engines but will set ya back a buck! I am having a local machine shop here in Beaumont,TX do my 360.They have done a few for me and I have had good luck. They quoted me $1400 for rebuild and shaving the heads down some for more compression, but only reworking what is not right in the heads.Time is running out,I really need advice on these oil mods!I hear that the majority of you like the summit cam.My problem is that I can get everyone but Summit brand for a great price.Which one to use crane, edelbrock, etc.I was going to order springs, rockers and a few other things but I read on a post that somebody was not happy with their crane valve springs.

I would steer away from NAPA,Auto Zone,Advance Auto Parts etc,and go for ATK,gopher engines like the others said, and if I had the money I would go with JASPER.That just my 2 cents.Good luck!!!!!

If I were you seadog, I'd go for the PAW cam....can't pull the number out my butt right now, but i'm sure someone can. Retro93 is using it, and loves it. I've never heard of anyone around here who didn't like it. Price is right from what i hear too.
