This one is for the NP229 ownrers out there:

I bought a 1985 Grand Wagoneer last week. The P.O. said it he was driving down a hill and it "popped" out of gear. Wouldn't go back in gear yaddayaddayadda and he sold it to me for cheap... :D

So, me being me I asked a few more questions and found out it has a new motor with @ 4000k on it and ran great! :D

Got it home and saw all the vac lines to the NP229 t-case were cut. Hmmm... Put a vac pump to it and was able to switch it from 2wd to 4wd fine. The 2wd "mode" shift linkage would drift back towards 4wd - causing it to grind and not drive. Hmmm...

Today I put the vac hoses back on the t-case and well, to make a long story a little longer me and my woman tooled around the neighborhood for 1/2 an hour - in 2wd and 4wd!!! :D

MORALE: IF YOU FIND YOUR T-CASE SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR AND EVERY GEAR YOU SHIFT TO IS NEAUTRAL - CHECK ALL VACUUM CONNECTIONS AND HOSES FOR LEAKS FIRST!!!

It seems that 2wd mode needs a constant vac applied to it to stay in 2wd.
