View Full Version : Gsmikie, or anyone else, HELP!
I'm so close to throwin the valve body into my 999 tranny, but I have a question regarding the two ball checks on the transfer plate. (Low-reverse servo ball check and the Rear clutch ball check valve)
does each check valve get a ball in it? I only have (1) 1/4" ball, and i managed to find a 1/8" ball but I do not even know if the 1/8" ball goes to the valve body at all. It was mixed amongst the rest of my parts to the valve body.
any insight you have would be GREATLY appreciated. after this, its home stretch for my chero!

do you have a book? I don't have one for that tranny, but some transmissions don't use one in some of the locations, depending on year of the tranny.
If you are sure that you didn't lose a ball, and one didn't come out of it, then don't use one.
the wording in the book(s) is a slight bit vague, and the diagrams aren't that clear. It said to install both "ball checks" but to me, it looks like they are just cavities in the transfer plate. the 727 doesn't use low-reverse ball check, but I have the 999. makes me wonder, because other than that, the two valve bodies are identical. but thanks for the advice. if I have to, i will just throw the 1/4" ball into the ball check that both the 727 and 999 use, and omit the other one. its just too vague for me at the moment. tongue.gif

if the 1/8 ball was part of the setup, that's the only place I can think where it goes. look at the valve plate and see what the marks look like from the ball seating, that may help place the ball.
also, looking at the valve plate will tell you if it even had a ball there.. the balls usually leave wear marks on it.

If you put the ball in there, and it doesn't belong, you simply won't have reverse gear. Then you get to tear into it and remove the ball.
AMHIK.
BTW, the TF727 does NOT take a ball in that passage.
Look it up in a proper repair manual and save yourself some suffering.
