What strength bolts should I use when I replace the body mount bolts? Grade 5 or 8?
Thanks,
Anthony

I always use 8 if I can help it. Just better. It is not going to hurt anything, so go with what is better for you.

Dunno on this one actually... Grade 5 are more shear resistant, whereas 8 have the higher tensile strength. I would think it would be the shear loads that I'd be worried about... Maybe I'm off base here... Last time I did a body lift I'm pretty sure the new hardware was grade 5...

Now that I think about it you may be right, SnB.

i'd go with 5 cuz think of how the body flexes on the frame. lotsa shear going on there, especially if you have a body lift. think of the forces on the bolts from 3" extra... yeowch. stopping and going, turning left to right, blah blah, is going to put more shear than pull on the bolt. doing dukes of hazzard style jumps would put more tension, i would think http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

I think either would work. On my CJ I repalced them all with stainless thinking that this might help eliminate rusting of the bolts (and thus rusting of the body).
