Much to my surprise I found the trans problem of this 84 GW I just bought. The previous owners were certain the trans was toasted but I wasnt convinced after looking at the fluid. Both motor mounts were broken and allowing the engine to move around enough to goof (technical term) up the shift linkage. Ive only replaced one at this point (couldnt get 2 in a small town in one weekend) and it has drastically improved the situation. The other will be replaced this weekend and Im convinced it was the entire problem. Lucky for me.... I have a great running 84 GW with some very minor problems for $500.

I guess as they say " The sun even shines on a dogs Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley sometimes "

Hooray for me.

Also check to make sure the mount bolts for the trans haven't came out. It is common for these two bolts to vibrate out.

And I would also recommend checking or replacing the mount at the crossmember. It must have taken all kinds of strain with both motor mounts toasted...
