View Full Version : Stumbles accelerating from idle

Hi:

Thought I ask to see if you guys could give me a place to start looking to fix my problem. smile.gif

My 86 GW with stock AMC 360/2barrel warms up, kicks down to low idle fine. When I try to pull away from a stop with a slight open throttle it stumbles, sometimes stalls.

I can keep it from stalling by stomping on the throttle. I have not worked on a carb for years..more familiar with fuel injection.

Oh, yes it is a Canadian GW and has only an EGR for emmissions.

Ideas?

hmmm... i would do the usual stuff, timing, cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, then go to the tech section and in there.. (i am not at my own computer other wise i would give you the link) ther e should be a tech article on how to rebuild you r 2150 carb.. well at the end of that article there is a paragraph or two which tells you how to dial in your fuel mixture and idle speed.. follow that and I belive you might get it worked out.. at least that is what worked for me, although when I mashed the gas on mine it would just stall out where yours goes better... good luck!

I know it gets old, but first thing I would check would check the vacuum first. Next, would be to make sure choke is opening up all the way. Another thing, it might be a stuck open thermo, not allowing the engine to warm up all the way. Is this happening all the time, or does it seem to go away after it warms up?

One more thing to check would be the accelerator pump, on the very front of the carb. It's probably either got a leak, or needs to be adjusted. It'll be in the tech section, or in the rebuild kit how to adjust it.

I think these guys covered it..
I had my motorcraft 2bbl rebuilt, then I changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and timed the motor... runs better than ever.... check for vacuum leaks...
