I just did an engine swap and now am having a problem with the temp gauge. Within 2-3 minutes of a cold startup the gauge is reading at the top of the red, 260 IIRC. There are no other signs of the engine running hot though. All other gauges seem to be correct, oil pressure is around 40-60 lbs (sweet!).
Any ideas?

I was having the same problem a couple of weeks ago (gauge reading hot, engine didn't seem hot). I put a mechanical temp gauge on and verified that the engine was running at 160-170. Messed around and found there was a short in the wire coming off the sending unit. Fixed the short, now I have both the original and an auxilary mech gauge.

It could always be that voltage thing in the back of the gauges. Search posts on this, I had that problem once myself.......

How bout buying a a cheap mechanical temp gauge to verify what your reading on the stock gauge. I went to mechanical oil pressure and temp gauges and the differences were pretty significant.

Pull temp sending unit from old motor and put in your swapped motor. ;)

Okay,
I'll show my ignorance here: Where is the temp sending unit? redface.gif
Thanks for the replies, it's nice to finally be back on the road. Couldn't have done it without the help of everyone here!
