Mine usually starts coming on when I have five gallons left and I'm coming to a stop, but it goes out when the truck is at rest or accelerating.
It's on steady when there are four gallons left.
I find that if I park facing down in my driveway (it's a hill) and the light is on, the fuel won't reach the pickup and the truck will act like it's out of gas.

thanks guys, i have observed all the above mentioned behavior at one time or another. i just didnt really have an idea about how much was left in the tank. my plan is to let the tank run down til the light comes on. and to add a gallon of denatured alcohol to help ease this beast past the smog nazis. 20% ethyl should help. the old carb was flooding the back 2 cylinders. i replaced the carb and once i had cleaned the fouled plug in #8, the jeep is running fine. ive been running around with an expired rejection sticker and id like to get that taken care of.

So thats what that little light is. Mine has never came on. I always fill up at half a tank. I will run mine down low to see if mine works.

I couldn't get mine to work, it never has. The P.O. probably got sick of seeing it on all the time and cut a wire going to it.
